| Tasting # 396: And even MORE Macallan (05-OCT-2009) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes | Had I preplanned this a bit better I could have worked up to the 25 and started here, with the 1980 - 18 year old. Yeah, it's a bit out of date and you're not going to run into it a decade after it was released, but I enjoyed comparing it to the other Macs on my list. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 1st Impression | More Macallan labels, nothing drastic here. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smell | It's Macallan's dry wheat flour and oak plus a bit of citrus. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Taste | Sharp in the front, quite a bite of wood and orange zest that hits you quickly. There's not much of a build, that front just holds and shifts to more oak before the fade. Here things are a bit better, the wood shows some character and you get more barley and wheat. The finish is fair, but just when things are getting good you get a last hurrah of oak and you're done. Skip the water if you ever happen to cross this one's path. | ||||||||||||||||||||
