| Tasting # 369: CT13: Ending on the lone Canadian. (06-JUL-2009) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes | I know nothing of Wiser's, but if after 18 years of aging it's still this mediocre, I'm just not that motivated to care. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 1st Impression | Fair bottle, bit old fashioned but not quite "classic" | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smell | Rye, mostly, but not terrible. Some pear and apple notes that are close to corn syrup. A tad unusual for a Canadian. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Taste | The rye opening is really good, builds well and holds together ok which lends some weight to the airy top. Things here aren't as good. A touch of vanilla and a faint bit of fruit that I'd take some time to get to know if this were a better overall glass. It just isn't, though. Once I get to the top it lacks any depth outside the rye, which goes a bit flat (but thankfully not sour) in the fade. The finish is better, very tiny bit of oak to hold things up and it slips quietly out of existence. I'm looking at 60 and thinking that it just doesn't measure up. | ||||||||||||||||||||
