| Tasting # 358: CT2: A distillery you've likely never heard of (27-MAY-2009) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes | Edradour touts itself at every opportunity as the Smallest Distillery in Scotland, a title it now shares with Kilchoman. In any case, this came highly recommended, my host insisted I try this before several much older bottles. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 1st Impression | Dumpy little bottle with an odd burlap scarf. Take it from a boy who grew up in farm country, burlap doesn't suggest quality. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smell | Walnuts and lemon zest. Slightly waxy. More heather than barley. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Taste | Very sweet front end, this is quite unusual and very nice. Sugar, tea and the creamy stuff you get on cinnamon buns show up in the top alongside some very dry sherry. I'm really floored by how sweet this Highlander is. It really holds together wonderfully, fading into almost brown sugar but with a lot of grain in it, more of that heather and a firm, steady finish. Fantastic all around, just a monster of gently sweet flavors and just the right grain base to put it on display. Mid 80s. | ||||||||||||||||||||
