| Tasting # 255: Blind B= BenRiach 16 (23-APR-2008) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes | Long on my "to-do" list, BenRaich finally appears thanks to the blind taste test. The BR 16YO is a nice ride through an unusual flavorset for a Speysider. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smell | Barley and salt with a light fruit that is lost in the dense, dense musky peat and mushroom flavor. Reminds me of a Bowmore. Huge nose. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Taste | Potent kick! A real monster of an opening, big salty peat and a barrel of barley push through some hot spices: pepper, bay leaves and this really holds out to a peak before fading quickly. Sharp at times, a whale of an opening. The fade is fast and doesn't add too much, the finish is peat and pepper and it holds steady for a good while. Really a good chewy finish. Water really brings out some of the spice and peat, but I managed to swamp it very easily. Low 80s. | ||||||||||||||||||||
