| Tasting # 195: MMII: Bowmore Dawn is simply fantastic (02-NOV-2007) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes | Coming in above the exceptional 90 point line, Dawn is an Islay powerhouse that came out of nowhere. With two more Bowmores scheduled for this taste event it could end up being a very one sided affair. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smell | Very light peat, creamy grain and butter. A big black pepper and lemon zest burst in the middle. Very expressive but mild enough to enjoy. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Taste | This is 51% alcohol? Really far too easy to enjoy from the very start. It opens buttery sweet and creamy smooth peat with figs and just a trace of sea air. Then the peat builds and builds wonderfully toward the top. Wood and smoke ease in behind the peat and are just fantastic, adding to a very dry, clean feel with all that fruit and peat mixing perfectly. The top brings spices=> black pepper and mocha and malt. Its a powerful combination of flavors that build back into the sinuses and take up residence. The fade goes from dry to just a touch sticky, the peat and wood fight for the front row as floral and fruit flavors bring up the very end. The great finish is just the feather in the cap of a ton of flavors, feel and complexity. This is beyond 80, stepping into the spotlight of the low 90s with gusto. | ||||||||||||||||||||
