| Notes | Jim Beam White and Canadian Mist got the grab-bag blind taste treatment. Beam didn't embarrass its better sibling, but sadly that's where the winning streak ends. So far Jack Black, Gentleman Jack, Windsor Canadian, JW Red and Old Grand-dad have been passable... or at least drinkable. Not Canadian Mist. Oh no. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smell | Wow. Rye and burning and some kind of sweetness I can't identify with the rye flavor. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Taste | The weak smell leads into a sharp, dry (to the point of arid);, bitter, biting opening taste. Ooof. Vicious stuff. Astringent with maybe some citrus notes, maybe really overripe grapefruit, then heavy, dark smoke. A kick in the tongue, this one, I could only battle the awful wave for so long, and finally with heavy heart and firm hand, I dumped it in the sink. | Taste | A pure mixer that ranks below its close cousin=> Seagram VO. These two compete for the mixer and bottom shelf crowd with the sure sign of a mean spirited mixer=> the 1.75 liter jug. It's all burn and smoke, whisky at its most primal and brutish. | ||||||||||||||||||||
