NotesTucked away between the Link to another reviewWhite Label and my choice house Bourbon Link to another reviewBlack Label sits this, Jim's green labeled “Choice”. The Green scores slightly lower than the Black, but given it's slightly cheaper score it actually ties the master for practicality! I'll probably shell out the extra few bucks for the Black label, but I sure won't turn down this as an alternative!---------------Tucked away between the Link to another reviewWhite Label and my choice house Bourbon Link to another reviewBlack Label sits this, Jim's Green “Link to another reviewChoice ”. SmellAh, that Beam smell. Warm, inviting wood and a sweet vanilla and molassas greet me in a wave. There's an undertow of grain there, which is making me yearn for another bottle of the Link to another reviewBlack. There's also a grassy smell to this one, dried cut grass that I don't remember from any other Beam siblings.
TasteAh, that's Beam alright. It takes just a touch of water to unleash the sweet woodsmoke I've so come to love. The smoke is joined by cinnamon applesauce and vanilla in the front, building to a slightly prickly top with caramel, oatmeal and just the tiniest bit of vinegar and hay. That little tartness might cost it a point and things get a little sticky in the mouth feel. The fade is all applewood smoke and you'll have forgotten the tiny flaws at the peak. The end is a good, steady finish that is everything I love in bourbon. Minus the few flaws in the peak, this is everything that it's elder brother is=> a straightforward bourbon that brings all the flavors and keeps the tartness in check.
