The disputed inventor of whisky, the island of Ireland sits just west of Great Britian across the Irish Sea. It is politicially divided into the Republic of Ireland and Northern Island but all whisky from Ireland is dubbed Irish Whiskey. There are only 3 Irish Distilleries: Old Bushmills, New Midleton and Cooley. Sadly there is (or was) some friction between Bushmills and Jameson, the two largest Irish blends, that ties into the religious divide between Protestants and Catholics. Thankfully, this seems to be easing into history.
